“Listen. This is the noise of myth. It makes the same sound as shadow. Can you  hear it?”

Eavan Bolland

‘Mythistoria:An Archeology of Shadows’ is a new body of work by Chris O’Leary which negotiates ideas of myth and history in relation to the artist’s travels in Greece. In a way, ‘Mythistoria’ identifies with a Western European tradition of women’s travel narratives and the ‘re-imagining’ of Greece, dating back to the eighteenth century. Chris works with photography and digital imaging as well as painting, clay and encaustic medium to make multi layered and fragmented pieces. Her work also engages with contemporary Greek music as another rich layer of meaning in the rendering of Greece through the collective imaginary and from the ‘spaces of marginality’.
