summary and background

Chris O’Leary is a visual artist who lives and works in the U.K and travels in Greece. Until recently her work has mainly been concerned with Irish identity and subjectivity within a post-colonial context. Her works to date include; ‘England Dream of Empire’ exhibited at The Photographer’s Gallery in London in 1985. In 1991 she produced an Arts  Council Touring Exhibition entitled ‘Wave/Another Country – On Irish Exile and Dispossession’ and in 1994 was invited to show work in Wolverhampton in a group show by Irish artists commemorating the signing of the Good Friday agreement. More recently Chris produced ‘Daughters of the Magdalen Laundries’. In 2019 she gave a presentation of her Athens based project; ‘Mythistoria: An Archeology of Shadows’, to a conference entitled ‘Popular Music of the Greek World’ at the British School at Athens, where she is a member.
