‘england dream of empire’

Was shown at Camerawork’s ‘The Empire’s New Clothes’ exhibition in 1989/90. De-constructing 19th Century ‘anthropological’ photography by Julia Margaret Cameron, alongside Kipling’s poem ‘The White Man’s Burden’. This piece in thirty sections uses traditional print-making techniques such as letter-press and photo-litho as well as silver process. It marks the artist’s preoccupation with issues of national and cultural identity and the ‘practice of analysis’ that informs her work.
